Navigation within a set of documents: Navigation is ensured with the following standard links, thus retaining the logical integrity of the original PHP article:

  • Next, namely the Kairos document constituting the next section (if any) of the original PHP article
  • Previous, namely the Kairos document constituting the previous section (if any) of the original PHP article
  • First, namely the Kairos document (the "main" document) constituting the first section (if any) of the original PHP article
  • Last, namely the Kairos document constituting the last section of the original PHP article
  • All, namely a link to the original PHP article (outside the Kairos Drupal collection)
  • Refs, namely a link to the bibliographical section(if any) extracted as a separate document from the original PHP article

Citations between Kairos documents: Any set of documents may give rise to several kinds of links (distinct from the "navigation links" within the set. Distinct document types are generated for each:

  • Links TO other Kairos documents: When the original PHP article has hyperlinks to other articles, these links (from any part) form the basis of another document type in Kairos, namely links to other main documents in Kairos. There is thus a single document associated with any given set of main and document parts (corresponding to the original article) which clusters separately any links to other documents. There are currently 1104 documents of this type.
Example for the above case: Citations TO other documents in Kairos
  • Links FROM other Kairos documents (any part): The links from other articles (in the original PHP format), namely those identified above as "Links to Kairos", form the basis of another document type in Kairos, namely links to the relevant main document in Kairos. There is thus a single document associated with any given set of main and document parts (corresponding to the original article) which clusters separately all links from any part of other documents (main, parts and references). There are currently 1722 documents of this type.
Example for the above case: Citations FROM other documents in Kairos
  • Links from Kairos (specific part): The links from specific sections of other documents (in the original PHP format), form the basis of another document type in Kairos, namely links to the relevant main document in Kairos -- but identifiying the title of the specific part from which the link comes. There is thus a single document associated with any given set of main and document parts which clusters separately all links from specific parts of other documents. There are currently 796 documents of this type

Citations from within Kairos documents to documents outside Kairos: Citations within the body of a Kairos document (excluding the special bibliographical document), may be of serveral types:

  • Citations hyperlinked to external documents (or websites): These are not treated or extracted in any way, although accessible by the keyword facility. This notably includes hyperlinked references to external journal articles. Such citations may however also be present in the bibliography, in which case they are processed with other such records.
  • Citations to external documents without hyperlinks: These are not treated or extracted in any way, although accessible by the keyword facility. They may however also be present in the bibliography, in which case they are processed with other such records.
  • Citations hyperlinked to other Kairos documents: As indicated above, these are all extracted and processed

Drupal access facilities: These are automatically generated by the content management system and include:

  • Views: This facility is expected to develop rapidly. Currently several listings of records are available, which may allow for further sorting (or refinement) of the list displayed:
    • Titles of documents with selection by title keyword, publication date, and sorting (access via Documents at top of page)
    • Bibliographical references for each set of documents (access via References at top of page)
    • Authors of external references as cited within Kairos documents (references) allowing selection by number of author's publications and/or number of Kairos documents citing them (access via Authors cited at top of page
    • Keyword search use Search box at top right of any page
  • Keywords: This is a site-wide feature for documents and records of all types. Results take the form of a summary of records containing the keyword and providing relevant links
  • Content topics / themes: A summary of the range of over 30 topics is available via the left-hand margin (Topics / Subjects). This provides access to checklists of documents by sub-topic. Use of the extensive Drupal taxonomy features has been considered -- but rejected in favour of an automiatic tagging system.
  • Access via Laetus: From the original PHP article on Laetus-in-Praesens, direct access to the corresponding Main document in Kairos has now been enabled in a beta test mode
